Message: I know this is a crazy question but I wanted a travelers opinion. We are already scheduled to go on vacation in November to Vegas, but I just seen a deal for a 4 day caribbean cruise. GREAT price! I know we are on a "major" budget, but I'm very tempted to book this cruise also. It's for the same month we are going to Vegas. Vegas is already booked and sealed. DH thinks we would be pushing it because the holidays are near etc... If we booked this cruise, it would go on the charge card. What should I do? Need some honest opinions here. I know deep down I should be happy & satisfied by going to Vegas, which I love too!! I don't want to go into debt for a vacation by no means....

If you're comfortable and happy with cheap travel arrangements, that's your call. Cheap cruises almost always feature truly crummy buffet food, tiny and sparse accommodations, and either young/loud or very, ummm, unsophisticated cruisemates.
Again, that's great if that's your thing.
But with cruises, you get what you pay for.

As for running up your credit cards, that's pretty foolish, but no more foolish than wasting it on a really cheap cruise.

I'd be more supportive (maybe) if I thought this wasn't a troll post. But it is probably a troll post, since you wrote things like "I just seen a deal for...", and "I don't want to go into debt by no means..."

Sounds wonderful, but I wouldn't do it unless I could pay the card off as soon as the bill came. Even if it's a great price, it's just not worth it to go into debt when you already have a nice vacation planned.

Thanks for the advice. This is not a Carnival cruise. I do NOT like Carnival!! It's the Royal Caribbean on a newer ship. Looks very lovely. I don't want to be sorry later when the bills come rolling in. Especially since the holidays are near. I should be appreciative that I'm goin to Vegas!!

I'd say go with the flow. If you think you can afford, heck why not do it! Life is too short!!

Wait until you can afford it (pay off the credit card bill when it arrives)...you'll have a much better time and a better holiday than having bills stacked up. The caribbean isn't going anywhere....(besides I'm sure you'll want to gamble in Vegas)

My Honest Opinion. I LOVE Vegas. I'd rather go to Las Vegas anyday than go on a 4 day caribbean cruise. Not my style. I'm not a heavy gambler. Just enjoy the sights, restaurants, and atmosphere of Las Vegas. If I had my choice, I'd stick with Vegas especially if you know you enjoy it there.

I'd say your the only one who knows best regarding finances. If it were me and I knew I didn't have the money, I'd just stick with the original plan- Vegas. Like mom always says, follow your first instinct.

I'd say - if a Caribbean cruise is something you really want to do, and this looks like one that suits you, try to do some research and figure out how truly cheap/unique this opportunity is. If it really is an incredible bargain that you're not likely to see again soon, then I would grab it - with a promise to pay off the debt as a top priority. If not - maybe keep an eye out for this type of deal once you've saved up (and rested up) a bit.

Save for the cruise. Maybe that can be your focus for next year's vacation.
But I'd say -Viva Las Vegas Baby!!!

If you don't like Carnival you might want to do some research first-we have gone on Royal Caribbean for a week and it was not very good-the dining room food was ok (not great) and the breakfast and lunch buffets were AWFUL!! There are so many good cruise bargains-even into early January if you don't want to wait very long-and remember-the price of the cruise is the tip of the iceberg on the total cost unless you are very disciplined.
