"Alien" Restaurant at LAX?
We have a layover at LAX end of the month and wanted to try out that restaurant, think its called Encounter? I've read conflicting info online, so wondered if anyone local could confirm. Is it closed? I read it was closed, and then someone told me that no, now its open again.
If that's a no go, can you recommend someplace good to eat. We'll have about 4 hours, so not enough to leave the airport. Thanks!

The Proud Bird was supposed to close, but hasn't. It's over on Aviation. Food is decent, and you get to see planes landing. It is a cool place to hang out.
Encounter is still closed, I believe, but I'll check with my friend who works for the airport to see if that's, in fact, true.

What terminal will you be arriving/departing from?~~~
Don't know. But we're coming in from Chicago and then will be departing international, if that sheds any light on it.
Surfergirl - I saw that online; we'd have to cab it tho, and leave the airport?

OK -- Your itinerary should state which terminals. That is important info.
You are probably (but not absolutely) using Tom Bradley. W/ just 4 hours and an international flight -- just head straight to TBIT - you really don't have time to do much of anything else.
Here is a list of restaurants at LAX - the first eleven are all at TBIT

Janis forgot the list. In the meantime, here's a map of the Tom Bradley terminal that shows all the restaurants therein.

If you are indeed going out through TBIT I would hang out at the "Great Hall".
However there are international flights out of other terminals.
You may want to check the full list when you get your Terminal Info, and see which restaurants appeal to you. Most are on the Departure Levels but if you are behind TSA you may be able to get to them by using elevators after you arrive.

Also LAWA has a Twitter feed now which is pretty up to date with openings and closings
