Aladdin Deals
Just booked a room for $89 a night in April at the Aladdin. Check your dates for this special through http://www.travelzoo.com/Top20.asp?id=100179327
I still have TI under reserve also for $109. I saw an email about remodeling at the Aladdin...if anyone knows when that starts, please comment...

As far as I know, nothing specific has been made public about when things will begin to change. There was no visible construction going on there last week.
Here's a link to an article about the takeover, from August, indicating that the official renaming may not even be until next year:

The Aladdin is in a great location! It's less than 1/2 mile to the corner with MGM, NYNY, Tropicana and Excalibur, and only about a mile to the TI/Venetian area. TI location isn't bad, but it's less central, depending on where you plan to spend a lot of your time.

For three nights this past summer, I found a special rate on one of the discount sites for Aladdin, then called the hotel direct to see if they'd match it. I was unsure about having to cancel and didn't want stuck on the prepayment thing with the discount site. To my surprise, Aladdin not only met the price, they beat it with a special bed and breakfast rate that never even appeared on their website. By all means call the hotel direct and "whine" a little bit to see what they will come up with.

We've stayed at both hotels, both are fine. Aladdin bathrooms are great but if you have a car beware that the parking garage is a LONG walk from hotel. You must traverse the entire Desert Passage shopping mall to get back and forth. The garage at TI is just behind the hotel. Aside from the bathrooms at Aladdin the rooms in both hotels are fine, we had very nice ones in both. Remodeling is "supposed" to start this summer (at least that is what we were told when there recently). Location wise the 2 hotels are about equal in my opinion, I actually like TI because it is attached to Mirage and right across from Fashion Show Mall. It's really all a matter of what you want to pay.

That last post is the reason I usually hate valet parking in Vegas. Even at the Bellagio (when it was quite new) we pulled into the valet parking and were stuck lined up out to the street. We saw people still with their cars who had been there over a half hour waiting to check in. We saw others waiting in line for their cars to be delivered. Just when you want to take the car out at night, you may be waiting forever to get it. What a nuisance.
For that reason, on checking in at Aladdin, we headed immediately to the self-parking, but it was quite a walk rolling luggage all the way through the mall.

Valet parking is fine IF it is not busy, otherwise you can wait forever for your car - which is why we usually do not bother doing it. At the Aladdin you might as well take the long hike to the garage yourself, in the long run you have saved yourself time (and annoyance).

thanks for the tip on the garage. My wife is recovering from a fractured foot (hopefully will not be an issue by the time we go on our trip), but knowing the garage at TI is closer is a plus for staying there just in case...thanks

Yikes, I guess I better tell my brother to bring his hiking shoes! I had read about the long walk to self-park and just figured he'd be able to valet. There is a big convention that week, 70,000 attendees, and that's only one (who knew there were so many Kitchen & Bath people in the US?) of many conventions, so I guess he'll be walking to his car.
