Airfares between Hawaii and LA. Up or down?
What do you guys think? This would be for a mid-September trip. I've been watching it over the past couple months and it's inching higher (on every airline). My guess is it will only get higher because oil seems to be increasing steadily. I'm thinking of just biting the bullet now and book.

As of 3/4/11, total price including taxes/fees is $645.00 per person RT between Hawaii and LA. Bing airfare predictor is saying to wait, but I've been tracking the price for about a couple monthw and it's been going up by about 5 bucks per leg every couple weeks.

I know everyone is predicting a rise in airfares because of the gas prices but I would think that if you did a quick check everyday on Kayak or one of the other airfare search sites you could beat that price. Don't you hate this crazy system the airlines have?
It just takes a minute to check. I would also set up alerts on Travelocity and Airfarewatchdog--but if you pull up a good fare, you need to book it immediately. You still have time.

MomDDTravel-if that was Round trip you must tell us where you found the deal.
The taxes and fees seem to be $37 for the RT. I suggest a "name your own price" on PL of $463-for a total of $500. You might just get it. If they say it is too low-raise the bid by $7.
You should be able to save at least $100 if you know the exact dates you want to fly.
Gas may be over $5/gallon in Hawaii by September if you were thinking of renting a car.

It was crazy... we are flying from DFW - HNL and the tickets were over 880.00 each - but my stepdaughter lives in Orange County California...and will fly from LAX and her ticket was 333.90 plus tax bringing it to 333.90. American Airlines ticketed on Feb. 26th.

I'd been watching Honolulu from Seattle. And it seems the prices go up and down by month (not steadily creeping up because of fuel costs).
I found low prices in late Feb & early March, then they went high the rest of March thru April, and down again looking at May.
