Air conditioning in March in Maui

We will be going to Maui in March 2004. Many of the condos do not have a/c. Will this be a problem? Too hot that time of year? We went to Hawaii last March, but both of our hotels had a/c. If you stayed in a place without a/c you could also share your opinion of the hotel/condo. Thanks.

The exact location matters quite a bit, upper elevations are cool all year round, while sea level areas with little rainfall get scorching hot in the summer. Overall, it's usually still cooler in March, shouldn't be a problem, days are pleasant upper 70s/low80s, trade winds are blowing nicely.

Starts warming up in May. The real heat comes in August and September, that's when the trade winds die down (trade winds is what keeps Hawaii from becoming jungle hot), it can get pretty awful without a/c if you have a room facing the sun.

It depends on your body. Do you like A/C in the summer? It will feel like a hot 80 - 90 summer day.

I allways get a/c if possible, you never know if trade winds are not blowing, we went on may 3 last year and needed a/c to sleep comfortable, overheard someone complaining that there $350 a night hotel room was hot. nick

We've stayed in the Kahana area in March and not used the A/C (even though our condo had it). I usually don't sleep well without A/C but it was nice and breezy in this part of Maui.

Dittos to Patty, except we went mid-May last year, Kahana area. First night was sticky due to a departing weather system (had rained a lot in preceding week) but after that the trades kicked back in. Condo had excellent crossflow etc with jalousie windows & so on.

I searched also for air because we are going in June, although was told we won't need it. I want it. I found our condo on VRBO.com it is condos all over the world listed by the owners them self. They list all amenitites up front and we also go a great rate. $750 a week on the beach, 1 bedroom with a pull out sofa sleeper in the living room with a great lanea.

We stayed in Maui in December at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel and it was GREAT! It was air conditioned but it was not a condo. It was very spacious though and the 4 of us ( 2 teenagers and 2 adults) were not crowded at all. It was very warm even then and we needed the air conditioning.

The fact that you're asking about air conditioning means that you should find a place that has it no matter what time of year in Hawaii. Better to have it and not use it than the alternative.

We've been to Maui many times in April, which I imagine is a little warmer then March, and we always stayed where there was a/c. The last few times we went we stayed at the Mahana (condos) just north of Ka'anapoli. Not only are they air conditioned but all the condos face the ocean so you have spectacular views no matter where you are. We never ran the a/c at night tho, but it was welcome in the afternoons! Just a word about condos - always ask for an updated one if at all possible. Most are privately owned and some are not as nice as others. We were lucky several times at the Mahana with updated furnishings, etc. but at a stay at the Ka'anapoli Shores we did not have a "updated" unit (none available they said) and while it was OK, it could have been better.

We loved The Kaanapali Shores.
In our opinion, nothing needed improving.
Try going through Aston for properties on Kaanapali.
