Affordable hotels near Broadway for September??

Hi! Can anyone recommend an economic hotel near Broadway? We are going in September, over a weekend, and plan on seeing a show...any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

September can be pricey. Do you need a room for 2 people or are there more of you traveling? If there are just 2 people per room you might want to try Priceline, but just becasue you start bidding is no guaranty that you are going to get a room. I would look at some websites, see what suggestions come up here and find a rate you can live with at a hotel that is convenient for you. Then if you win something on Priceline you can cancel the other reservation.

To get started look at:
www.quikbook.com
www.hotels.com
www.applecorehotels.com

Please tell us what "economical" means to you. $ 100? $200? $300?

Well - I don;t think you mean near Broadway - which is a main street that runs for miles - the whole length of Manhattan. I think you mean near Times Square - or the theater you'll be going to - an address might help.

For economical in Sept - which is starting to be high season - you're best using Priceline as long as there are only 2 of you.

But agree - tell us what economic means to you and people may make other suggestions.

When someone says they want a hotel near Broadway in New York and they are seeing a show, it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they mean "in the theatre district". Do you really think when someone says "I hope to be on Broadway some day" that maybe they mean down around the Village or perhaps in the West 90's? I know that New Yorkers sometimes like being reallllllly specific, but I'm sure nearly everyone else knew what was meant by "near Broadway".
We need an address for someone who wants to be near the theatres? How about anywhere between 40th and 55th and between 6th and 9th for starters.

Patrick you crack me up! You're right, a lot of people here get hung up on being really really specific; I asked for a dinner rec once for 2 glasses of wine & 2 entrees and stupid me gave a price range that (gasp!) didn't include a tip. Well I got beat up for not including this obviously life-threatening detail to the point that I barely got any decent information. I mean really - if you give a general idea of something (costs of hotel, meals etc.) does it really matter that the recommended hotel is $10 above someone's budget? Or the dinner will be $15 more than the range requested when it includes a tip? Maybe some people are so worried about being an "expert" that they just can't give a reasonable response?

And let's not even start about someone who says the want to stay "in Times Square". Obviously they must mean they want to room in the TKTS ticket booth - right?? They couldn't possibly mean a hotel on a street OFF of Times Square or NEAR Times Square!

The entry level price for rooms in the theater district is becoming $200+/night for any place halfway decent. Radio City apartments is often more affordable for a studio with double bed, but it's often booked. Sept. looks to be a very pricey month right now. The usual suspects for affordable places are well over $300/night except for the first weekend, Labor Day where there are some $200-250/night options.

The "usual suspects" besides Radio City apts. are
>The Belvedere but also looks outrageously expensive for Sept.
>Comfort Inn Midtown
>The Edison
>Super 8 TS
>Hampton Inn Times Square North
>Hilton Garden Inn
>Time
>Night
>Travel Inn

You'll get better value for money by staying a bit further from TS area. I've seen some good prices (under $200/night) for the Salisbury on hotels.com and expedia lately. It's within a walk of theaters, but closer to Central Park. Good clean hotel but a bit faded. The Eastgate Tower can also be affordable and is in midtown east (theaters are midtown west).

I would use Priceline. I have won the Paramount Hotel twice bidding 4*. Once for $110 and once for $125. Small (underline)but stylish rooms in the heart of the Theater district.

Thank you all for your responses!!! I really appreciate everything. There are 3 of us going, probably September 14th, we are going to see "Grease", and just would like something kind of affordable somewhere not too far from the Theater District. Sorry for not being more specific! But again, thanks for your help and time

With 3 of you sharing one room, that will be more affordable if you can manage ~ $100/person/night. Just a heads up that's a Jewish holiday which often brings lots of NYers' family to town so book early. I see some decent options on quikbook.com and elsewhere.

I did a little looking on Hotels.com and found quite a few options for that date under $300 (of course taxes will put it over that figure). One of the nicest options for you I thought was Novotel. I went to their own site however, and couldn't see how to reserve for three adults. I'm sure you can call and do that.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the Milford Plaza is another option. After years of bad mouthing it, all recent reports seem to suggest it is now a viable suggestion, and you can't beat the location in my book.

$314

(But don't eat at the hotel....that would be another $314 just for dinner!)
