Advice on 3 day vacation

Hi, I am planning a short vacation with my husband but we are not sure where to go. We are tourists and we are staying in DC. So we need a place where we can drive to and not spend the whole day on the road!! We are looking for a classy nice hotel but not too expensive (70-120$/night). People have suggested the Poconos, or NYC. Any other advices within max 4 hours drive from DC?

you may want to consider a bed and breakfast in the blue ridge mountains (www.bedand breakfast.com) for recommendations. As suggested, Philadelphia, Frederick maryland is a historic district, the Chesapeake Bay area is beautiful, St. Michael's or Solomon Island...

Thanks for the suggestions, I couldn't find anything about the Solomon Island!? Where is that?

Do you think the Skyline Drive would be good to go to. Maybe stay a night there? Any suggestions for good upperscale accomodation, like a place which is not too basic and good scenes.

Thanks,
