Add Your Broadway Theater Review
Always seem to be many who want suggestions on current Broadway shows -- myself included. Maybe we can put together one post with brief reviews of the current runs by those who have already seen them. I'll start with my favorite from the last trip to NY:
August-Osage County:
Outstanding! I think (and had agreement from all our theater going friends) that its A MUST SEE. It will surely sweep the Tony's. Yes, it is a bit heavy in spots, but is also hillariously funny. The acting is the best I've seen in years. We were all mesmerized for the entire three hours. Its like reading a great big wonderful novel, filled with fantastically complex characters -- the kind you hate to see come to an end - and really hope for a sequel.

Well, I don't have a review to add but we just booked tickets for November, a David Mamet comedy starring Nathan Lane. I love David Mamet, I love Nathan Lane.
Has anyone seen it? I'd be interested in your review.
TC,
My friends saw August-Osage County recently and they'd certainly agree with you. If we find ourselves with a spare evening in NY at the end of the month, we're going to see if we can get last-minute tickets.
Good thread topic!

This is second hand, but kind of funny because it relates to the first two posts. A good friend just flew to NYC last weekend mainly to see Patti Lupone in Gypsy (he studied acting with her at Julliard and keeps in touch). He thought it was AMAZING, and even the NY Times rave review was tame compared to his superlatives about every aspect of the show.
But while there he also saw August-Osage County which he felt was the BEST dramatic production he's ever seen in New York (he sees a lot), and also he went to November because we have a mutual friend and fellow actor from our group in the show -- Michael Nichols who plays the Indian. He went just to see Michael and isn't really a big fan of Nathan Lane -- but returned saying it was a wonderful comedy with perfect timing and delivery and he returned with a new respect for Nathan Lane as well.
So this is just to reaffirm those first two choices and add Gypsy to the mix.

November is very, very funny. Nathan Lane is, well, Nathan Lane. And, that means GOOD! Laurie Metcalf almost steals the show from him!
Other shows worth seeing: the aforementioned Gypsy and The 39 Steps, a delightfully clever interpretation on the old Hitchcock classic. Four actors play all the roles!
