Splashy Happy Musical

We're headed for NYC for a precious few days, last minute. We are seeing Cyrano de Bergerac; my daughter is a huge Jennifer Garner fan-it's her 18th birthday present. Her best friend has never been to New York, so she wants to take her to a big Broadway show, something "musical and happy". Love Wicked, but tickets are really expensive this late. Nominations, please??? TIA.

I'd say that both Hairspray and Legally Blonde fit the bill for musical and happy. I saw Hairspray on Broadway and it's very fun. I haven't seen Legally Blonde live, but I saw it on MTV and it looked great. Both of them are discounted on Broadwaybox.com through November 18th (as long as you aren't seeing it on a Saturday evening.)

Enjoy your trip, it sounds like a lot of fun!

I'd agree about either Hairspray or Legally Blonde. I went expecting to be mildly entertained by Legally Blonde, but it was really a wonderful fun evening, and the show is better than the critics or the following it's gotten would seem to indicate in my opinion.

Mama Mia, Grease, Mary Poppins and Xanadu are other options, but I think I'd go for Legally Blonde.

Legally Blonde is dark on Tuesday, unfortunately, which is our one free. I'm trying to get Wicked tix, but affordable ones have to be mailed. Sigh.

Hooray!! I must have hit ticketmaster at the precise moment they released the "premium" seats at the regular price. I got amazing seats for Wicked on Tuesday night. Yes, my fellow theatrephiles and compulsive planners, you can get lucky at the last minute if you're persistent-I was almost ready to buy from a secondary broker, but checked back at the theater's website one more time.

Susan, congratulations. I'm sitting down now. Mind telling us what seats you got and for how much?

I never knew how those premium seats were working when they weren't getting sold in advance.

Rows C and D left orchestra on the aisle, $111 each, versus the $250 when they were "premium" this morning.

I bought two in row C, being afraid to ask for 3 and lose "my place in line", went back and got a third in C.

Thanks, all. I didn't have the nerve to do this for Cyrano (plus there was the birthday bit), but learned in London that last minute is possible.
