Accomodations - North Lake Tahoe
I will be in Lake Tahoe the first weekend in August. Can anyone recommend a hotel in the North Lake area? I'm trying to keep my expenses down, would prefer a place under $100 but would spend a little more if I have to.

Check out Lake Shore Lodge. Very nice rooms and LAKE FRONT with a nice little beach, pool and spa.
We stayed there in july 2001, after reading about it here.

You may want to check out North Star (a ski resort) 1-800-466-6784, open year round There is a hotel and condos, a pool, hiking trails, bicycling, golf, etc.. It is on Highway 267, between Truckee and Kings Beach. Truckee is nice little town with some great stores and good restaurants. The Lake itself is in Kings Beach, about three miles down the highway. There is also a Best Western almost across the street. It is a wonderful area and a lot quietier and less traffic than Tahoe City, which has a lot of traffic jams, in and out.
Kings Beach, a nice little town, has several motels, probably in your price range, some fairly good restaurants, Jason's and a huge 24 hour Safeway Market. I'm sorry but I don't know the hotel prices at North Star.
All of the above are on the California side of the Lake, no casinos. Enjoy yourself, the Lake is magnificant.
