A week to see Oregon!

Bought our plane tickets, went to the library for tour books, got the AAA maps and info...ready to see Oregon, Sept 26-Oct 3. We like small towns, cozy lodgings. We will rent a car and leave the big city...have read and printed most of the suggestions from this forum...any additional ideas, suggestions? We're game...btw, 2 active retirees.

Besides liking small towns, what else do you really want to see in Oregon? The coast? The mountains? What other kinds of recreation? Ask specific questions and no doubt you will get answers, but it's difficult to answer an open-ended question like "any additional ideas?"

The coast AND the mountains! Is it possible to do a little bit of both?

Drive straight to Ashland from the Airport.
Spend 3 days doing Crater Lake, Shakespeare , Wine and food. Head over 199 through the top of the Redwoods, and start driving north. You have 4 days to make it back to Portland.I'd make it to Gold Beach, Yachats, and Astoria in my 3 days, then back to PDX.

ADD: You could do Bandon instead of GB if you so desire.

No offense, but when I read, "A week to see Oregon!" followed by the question, "...any additional ideas, suggestions?", my first thought was to advise adding a week or two.

If a week is all you've got, I'd recommend 3-4 days on the north and/or central coast, and 3 days in the Bend/Sisters area of central Oregon.

No offense taken...believe me...we are from Michigan and used to spend two weeks in the northern part of the state each summer...there is so much to see and so little time...at least on this side of life! So I thank each and everyone who has suggestions of their favorite spots...

I second the recommendation to see Bandon. We spent a lovely weekend there last year and enjoyed the scenery, the shops and the restaurants. I'd drive down the coast of Oregon as much as possible....there is so much to see!

enjoy,
