ooh, the name Sherlock is cute! We have a 2 year old basset (named Margaret Rose, but we call her Maggie)--to watch these hounds track a scent is really amazing. My husband said he read that bloodhounds, bassets, etc. can keep track of something like 28 different scents at the same time.

Anyhow, please report back in when you have your precious new baby. Wish I could offer some trip suggestions

You shouldn't have any problems doing Wilmington. Depending on where you are in Ohio, Wilmington will not be a bad trip for you if you leave early. Spend 2 nights in Wilmington and then drive to Charlotte, pick up the new pup and drive into Tennessee and spend the night. Then on home the next day with lots of break stops for pup!
If there is any way to add another day, I would but you can still do it! Call it a road trip and have fun. Congrats on Tess!

If you have time go the battleship in Wilmington, it is very nice!!

We are coming from Columbus, Ohio. Thanks for all the suggestions. We are leaning toward the Wilmingtion area. As far as names for the dog I love Sherman, but could use some more suggestions. Come on, put your thinking caps on. You guys are so witty

I guess I'll just give up and call him dog. You can check him out at www.houndearscom.

Someone I know named the dog something that sounded like Dee-o-gee. I thought it was a Japanese name or similar.

Turns out the name was D-O-G.

Hey, Starrsville, we had friends who had a dog with that name too! Did your friends live on Mercer Island?

Oh- I like Sherman too- or maybe Robert E Lee (Bobby), Rhett (Gone With the Wind),Boone,Pickens, ummm definitely something that reminds you of where you got him!
I don't suppose you're a "Dukes of H" fan?- Cooter, Jesse, Bo, etc.

Best of luck with your puppy, thehumps!

D-O-G....That is so cool, starrsville. LOL!

Well, since it's NC, what about Gomer (as in Pyle)?

The suggestion of connecting it with something from N. Carolina is cool.We did have a bassett hound for 13 yrs. I saw a road sign on the way to pick him up and got his name from that. Elwood
