A little help from New Yorkers please, great dessert spot?

Hi, we're staying in the city next Friday for the night. We want to try some wines and antipasti at Bar Veloce in Union Square and then will probably just want dessert and coffee. Where should we go? It might help if it were on the way back to the hotel (Stanhope across from the Met), but we'd be willing to go out of our way for something special. Thanks, nina.

McDonald's apple pie is pretty good as long as you bring your own coffee (may I suggest Starbucks?).

One of the best desert spots in the City is Payard Patisserie on Lexington and 75th. It's not cheap but the pastries, cakes and chocolates are fantastic.

Since you are in the 14th St. area, go to Veniero's which is not a far walk, to First AVe and down to 11th St.

By FAR the pasteries in the city. Many restaurants serve their cakes and such for desert.

If you don't feel like walking that far, try America also very close by on 18th St between Broadway and 5th Ave. There is a big flag in front and a star and I think the name is now on the front as well. It is a very large restaurant, but good food and the Death by Chocolate is just as advertised, lol.

Have a great time while you are here.

If you are willing to go to the upper west side, Cafe Lalo is fabulous. It is the place that was the coffee shop where Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks met in "You've Got Mail". They literally have hundreds of desserts. That's pretty much all they serve. I believe it's up on 83rd near Broadway.
Good luck!
