A follow-up thank you

Put out the white flag, Portland. Another Southern Californian is headed your way.

Thanks to Andrew, Gardyloo, BTilke and everyone else who chimed in on Portland tips.

After all the song and dance over looking for the 'perfect' neighborhood to live-in, my wife and I drove down from Seattle over our holiday visit and settled on an apartment about 2 blocks from my wife's place of employ. It'll do for now and give us as much time as we need to find a neighborhood we both like and is convenient to work.

During our househunting trip we stumbled into two places to eat -both in the NW 21st/23rd area. Papa Haydn and Lucy's Table. Both were a great dine. Did we just luck out or does Portland pack it's own epicurean punch, too??

Papa Haydn's is a poorly-kept secret. Portland has indeed got a number of great places, although I'm still lamenting the passing of Lydia's (near Portland State) where I and thousands of others were introduced to the Reuben sandwich, the equal of which I've yet to find. Sadly, that was during the Johnson administration. Andrew.

Try Bread and Ink on Hawthorn any time, but esp. for breakfast on a weekend. Oh the bialys... Oh the humanity...

Meant to add, we are supposed to be in the Rose City tonight. Make that the Froze City - airport iced shut, 60 trees fell over the Amtrak line, freeway basically a sheet of wet glare ice and freezing rain, Greyhound backed up. We're going for a wedding this weekend, but the bride and groom can't get their either. Will advise..

Lizzard.... are...you...sure...?

Have a great time in Portland! And you never know, you may turn out to really like the neighborhood you're moving to.
Papa Haydn's is well known in Portland, especially for its desserts.

My favorite restaurant in Portland is the Dragonfish. Downtown Portland. If your into Asian that is. We also try to hit Spaghetti FActory on the Willamette River when we visit, I'm told its a chain but have never seen one anywhere else.

Welcome to Oregon. We don't mind Southern Californians too much if they care for and appreciate the parts of Oregon not like S. California and try and make it like where they came from.

Oregon is beautiful and the deep freeze we just had is very unusual, heck we all needed a snow day or two (or three). I love living in a state that closes for that much snow and ice.

May moving be fun and enjoyable - yah right!
