I own a condo in Kihei. There is an airconditioner in the bedroom,I have never used it. Ceiling fans and tradewinds have also been enough to keep us cool. We are directly on the water though, maybe that makes a difference.
Some people might find day time temperatures of 80 to 85 degrees with moderate humidity and cooling trade winds "hellishly hot". Others might fell that this is "just right". You will definitely not need air conditioning at night.
Unless you are unlucky you will have a pretty constant breeze, especially if you are on the water. I was in Kihei in mid-October last year and never used A/C.
