I can't speak for MDR, but cabs are becoming more available/accessible in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, especially on weekends. Both towns have become popular with tourists on layovers of a few hours or overnight.
There is a taxi stand in downtown Hermosa Beach adjacent to the pedestrian zone at the pier. HB attracts a younger crowd, evidenced by the proportion of bars to restaurants. A more "beachy" vibe.
No taxi stand in Manhattan (although I've seen evidence the town is working on it), but restaurants are very happy to call cabs. (We're a friendly town!) There is often a cab in front of the upscale Shade Hotel, or the doorman could call one for you. MB attracts more adults, families, businessmen, people looking to shop and "dine."

Any restaurant will be happy to phone a cab for you, but here is the number of So. Bay Taxi, that we use all the time.

Jean, not a GV family after K. My parents built their dream house around 23rd & Laurel, then retired to the MB Village. I'm now a few blocks away from where I grew up. My brother and wife are driving up this weekend from SD and staying at the Sea View Inn, and one of his requests is meeting for Margarita's at Panchos for old times sake!

Manhattan Beach has established a taxi stand on Morningside between 12th and 13th streets. This area faces the back/ocean side of Shade Hotel and is across the street from the police station. There may not be waiting cabs on week nights.
