5 Points NYC

Me and my boyfriend are going to NYC for labor day weekend. Ever since seeing gangs of New York, he is obsesed with going to the current 5 points. I've been told that it is located where city hall now stands is this accurate? What else can you tell me about this area now?

Times have changed, and the Five Points location as depicted in the movie is long gone unfortunately.

I'm not sure if it was located in the City Hall area or not, but today that area is very busy -- lots of govt buildings, the Brooklyn Bridge, etc.

Enjoy NYC!

Times have changed, but the essential business-oriented nature of NYC never does. You can take a commercial tour based on the film:

Five Points was made up of the intersections of Park, Baxter, and Worth. Also, what happened in the movie was somewhat fabricated. The times and locations of certain events were fudged to make a more gripping story.

The area of former Five Points is just between the court buildings and Chinatown. There is a large park/playground there where you can see local children play on swings and local adults play mah-jongg.

Much of that movie was fabricated. For example, there were no underground tunnel & caves in the 5 Points neighborhood as depicted in the film. The water level is too high.
