I was just about to post my own topic on this subject, but am glad to see a timely thread already in progress. I'm a SF local and am trying to decide between Kenwood Inn and Hotel Yountville for a Valentine's Day treat with my boyfriend this weekend. I've spent lots of time in both Napa and Sonoma, and love each of the little towns in each region for their own personalities so this is really a question on the individual hotel experiences.

I've been dying to check out Hotel Yountville (looks more chic, younger vibe), but since it's Valentine's Day, I thought Kenwood Inn with it's dreamy, more romantic Tuscan-style facilities may be in order.

I noticed two posters commented on the each of these properties. Would love to hear thoughts and recos before I commit. I'm sure I can't go wrong, but appreciate any advice!

I would pick which ever has a soaking tub for two.

@Traveldiva:

Can't speak about Yountville but about Kenwood Inn.

Kenwood Inn is certainly romantic. It is small and intimate. We had a standard room which was very large, with a huge bathroom that had a free-standing bathtub. No TV in the room but a gas fireplace with automatic control (it automatically went out one hour after had gone to bed).

They have gas fireplaces on the terrace of the restaurant, too.

We also loved the garden in front of our room where we enjoyed a picnic and a bottle of wine.

The Inn has two pools, one outdoor pool which was nicely illuminated and steaming in the cool mornings and a small indoor pool which was very romantic since we usually were the only guests inside (remember, the Inn is small).

From the Inn, we could walk to several nearby wineries.

@Others:

You are right that the southern part of Sonoma Valley is somewhat industrialized. But the northern part, around Kenwood, is simply lovely. We also loved the small wineries there, some of them romantically quaint.

What I did not love so much in Napa were the big ones like Mondavi, with lots of cruise ship excursion buses on the parking lots.

However, Calistoga is very pretty and seeing the little geysir erupt is certainly worth a drive, whereever you are based.

Kenwood is in Southern Sonoma.

We also loved the small wineries there, some of them romantically quaint.

There are easily as many large wineries in and around Kenwood as in the entirety of Napa.

I am sorry to be so late in responding to all of you who so nicely took time to respond to my post (family situation kept me from getting to this board). I want to thank you all. Your information and suggestions were very helpful. We decided to stay in Healdsburg for the four nights. We are staying at the Honor Mansion and I am sure we will have a wonderful time. Again, thank you for all your help.

You could still do a trip to Napa one of the days. Maybe go up thru the Alexander Valley. Lots of options for your time here

We loved the Honor Mansion! I cannot recommend it highly enough. And Healdsburg was a wonderful place for us to base ourselves. MichelleY thank you for your suggestion. We did a day trip to Napa going through the Alexander Valley. It was a beautiful drive and we enjoyed our day in Napa wandering some cute towns. Thank you all for your very helpful advice and suggestions. I really appreciate the time you took to help me with this.
