26 yrs old in San Diego!

Hello all! My friend and and I, two 26 year old females are visiting San Diego for 5 days in January. We are looking for tips on what to do and what not to do. We have a car for all five days and we are interested in traveling to LA for a day. Please advise.

I'm older than you , but here are some of the things I liked.

1. La Jolla! Great shops (upscale), small town feeling, on the water.
Go to George's at the Cove for a meal or drinks. http://www.georgesatthecove.com/fine.php
(It's not easy to find parking in La Jolla. There's valet parking at George's. Leave your car there.)

Brockton Villa is a great funky place across from the beach (great views too) for breakfast or any meal. Casual.

It's not right in the main part of town and you usually can find parking there if you go there first. It's also where the seals hang out.
Here's just one good thread on La Jolla with more info.

2. Coronado This is an island across from downtown San Diego (drive over the bridge or take a ferry OR take the tourist tram tour that stops there). Gorgeoius beach, home of the famous Del Coronado hotel (rent the movie "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe--some of it was shot there despite the fact that they say they're in Florida in the movie). Nice boardwalk. There are some walking tours available too.

3. Balboa Park has the zoo, many (great but small)museums, beautiful gardens and makes a terrific day (at least). Tuesdays, some of the museums are free. http://www.balboapark.org/

There's a train that goes to LA but not sure exactly where it would let you out. Do you know what you want to see in LA?

We just spent 3 nights at the Hotel Del Coronado and loved it! Even if you don't stay here, go just to look at the property. The Sheerwater is a nice place for breakfast or lunch. If you like Mexican food, go to Miguel's Cocina by the El Cordova Hotel.

We also very much enjoyed La Jolla and spent an afternoon here. The Cove is a very nice place to sit and relax and take in the gorgeous scenery. There are paths you can walk along the ocean here and nice grassy park area, also. Shop on Prospect St. The Crab Catcher has really great clam chowder. We had dinner at George's at the Cove, a fantastic fine dining venue in La Jolla. The sun set around 5:00 and was amazing.

I would also not miss SeaWorld. We spen the day here this past Mon. No crowds, walked right up to all of the exhibits and shows. Plan on a full day here. The Believe Show was excellent and we also enjoyed the Journey to Atlantis ride so much we went 3 times.

The Del has a very nice spa where my husband enjoyed a massage. You can use the pool area and jacuzzi with a treatment here. San Diego is a beautiful place to visit. If want an outstanding meal in Coronado, Ocean 1500 was spectacular. Enjoy your time in San Diego, it's a gorgeous area to spend time in. ***kim***
