$200 Maui Hyatt Gift Certificate listed on Ebay

Hello,
We went on a 2 week honeymoon to Hawaii and loved it. As a thank you, we got a $200 gift certificate from the Maui Hyatt, to be used for food & beverage, spa, or gift shop. Since it was a "trip of a lifetime" for us, we won't be back anytime soon to use this. I posted it on Ebay, for those interested.
Thanks, Lisa

JuneBride...

double check your gift certificate just to be certain it is transferrable. Ours are not!

Hi JuneBride,
Do you know if you have to stay at the Hyatt to be able to use your gift certificate? My boyfriend and I will be in Maui at the end of March but we are staying at the Westin. I would love to buy this gift certificate but only if we can use it, even though we are not staying at the Hyatt. Thanks!

Junebride,

You say in your auction that the fine print includes the words, "May not be used with any other promotional offer"

I hope people are aware that could be interpreted as meaning you can't use the certificate if you book a room on a "promotional rate". If that's the case, the certificate may not be worth $200.

The last time I got a similar certificate (for a lesser amount at a Key West Hotel), I offered it for free on this forum.

Over the years I've had numerous hotel certificates for "half off rack rates". Big deal, usually those same hotels offer promotional rates at more than half off. I've had numerous airline tickets for $100 off or more, or even "free comanion ticket", but all were only good with "full fare" tickets -- which always put the final cost over just getting two promotional rate tickets.
My experience is the best place for most of those certificates is in the trash -- but I suppose sometimes they can be of some value. Just read all the fine print, then still hope for the best.

I have already used one of these certificates. They are good for incidentals only, not the room rate.

I got $200 off my incidentals charges without questions.

I also used it with a special AAA package booked with the Hyatt directly. This package included another $100 incidentals gift certificate. So, I ended up with $300 off my stay.

This certificate isn't one of those that can go in the trash. I had some nice spa treatments for my $300.
