Folks -- the OP's DD can't volunteer (she is in the States and won't be living in the UK until the time of the games) and the US allotment of tix is essentially sold out. US residents must buy their tix via the US site (and the process is nothing like it was in Atlanta)

Starrs: after starting this thread she re-posted over on the Europe board and got lots of advice/info. Basically she is pretty much SOL. Everything except some football (soccer) is long sold out even on the UK site, and she cannot buy from that site in any case.

Well, I went over there and read it - and came up with a different conclusion. It's clear that you think she's "pretty much SOL" - but not everyone thinks so. There's a chance that what Kay2 described will happen.
Months before the Atlanta Olympics, people were listing their homes for huge rental prices. There was virtually no market for them. Tickets were available in Atlanta for resale and less than huge mark-ups. You never know.
