Could it be that the superrich have picked one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in California? Could it be that they have planted multi-million-dollar homes in this area? Could it be that there is one of the most fabulous golf courses in this area? Could it be...? Could it be...?

Yeah - they picked one of the most superb stretches of coastline and then runined the whole thing with their lame golf course - LOL.
Put me in the camp that doesn't see the draw, but for a lot of people, it is a must see. Fortunately that means that everybody isn't always in the places I like to go

I'm with you JC there are many places I would rather see than the golf courses and splashy homes. But then again I live in Northern California and have been to the Monterey Penninsula numerous times. But then I also don't think that it is one of the most beuatiful stretches of beach either.
I don't see the draw to SF Fisherman's Wharf either, but for many a trip to SF is not complete without seeing it. The 17-mile drive is like the Wharf, Times Square--places people have heard of and feel they must see.

If you exit the 17 Mile Drive in Pacific Grove you need to turn left on Sunset (Hwy 68) and drive along the ocean there. You will see a deli at this intersection.
Great spots to stop and enjoy the sunset. Near Asilomar.
You also will see the Pt Pinos Lighthouse....oldest still working on the Pacific Coast. Running by the lighthouse is the beautiful Pacific Grove golf links (known as the poor man's Pebble Beach as you can play PG for only $40 and still get the ocean views).
Continue on and you will hit Lover's Point in PG. Another nice spot. The restaurant at Lover's Point, Lattitude's, has great views and worth a stop. PG is one of the best kept secrets on the Monterey Peninsula. Check it out!
