Charleston with family

Hi, this is my first trip with my 82 year old (young) mother, my 40'sh sister and her son age 6 to one of my favorite cities. DH and I have been several times but now I want to show the rest of my family what they've been missing. My question is a suggestion for accomodations for the four of us keeping in mind one of us is only 6. Is there a B&B suitable for us with adjoining rooms or perhaps a B&B families enjoy or should we plan on the Holiday Inn? Suggestions for the 6 year old would be welcomed. I already have GoTravels trip report from a few years ago so I only need update info for the child. Thank you all for your help.

IMAX and aquarium, taking the boat out to Fort Sumter. If it will still be warm, take time (and a change of clothes) to play in the fountain at the waterfront park.

Doubletree suites is recommended in GoTravel's post. It might be a good option for you if you want to stay in one unit. There is a sleeping room and a sitting room with a microwave and fridge. The location is very convenient. Embassy Suites is too far out.

Ditto on the Doubletree. B&Bs usually don't allow children or if they do, require they be over 12 or 14.

The Holiday Inns location isn't too great. If you don't want to spend the money on the Doubletree, look at the Best Western King Charles, The Andrew Pinckney Inn, and The Days Inn.

Also, Ft. Sumter and the SC Aquarium would be excellent choices.

I've tried to update the list.

Thank you for all your help. At this time we are looking at either the Mills house, Andrew Pinckney Inn or Doubletree. What do you think? We would give up the comp breakfast, wine, cheese etc. at the Mills but we gain a pool for the 6 year old. I think the Indigo Inn and the Renaissance might be a little outside the area we want to be in. The French Quarter had no availability on the Fri and Sat. nights. Planters seemed way to luxurious with a 6 year old as did the Charleston Place. Am I missing something? Thanks again for the help

The Indigo Inn and Renaissance are right in the heart of downtown and not out of the way at all.

Go for the Mills House if you think your six year old will enjoy the pool.

The Mills House is the best of both a chain hotel and a B&B. You will get consistent service (and a pool) but it is charming like a B&B. The location is not bad, but I like Doubletree better.
