Hello. I have gotten some great ideas for travel groups through the discussion board on this site. Not used to traveling alone but done waiting on friends or family to join me I am now feeling brave enough and ready to book and forge ahead.

As I was about to click the Book button...a billion questions came to mind. How do I pack for this? What should I bring?
Sounds silly. But I would love anyone to please give me insight and share on this discussion board their first tour guided trips and either things they wish they had or something I may not even think of.

What you pack will depend on where you go, at what time of year, what activities you'll be doing, what kind of dinners and evening events will be included.

I'm another fan of independent travel, but I have taken a few group tours, including some with Intrepid.

I have a basic packing list that I update for specific trips - I delete things if I'm going to Europe instead of Asia, and I add things if it's going to be cold. It's a bit out of date where electronics are concerned but will give you a start. There's a "leaving Home" list afterwards.

Check to see if the tour company has a ‘what to take’ list. Many do.

I've travelled a few times with Intrepid and found them to be very good. I did Vietnam independently though.

They usually provide a what to bring list.

You will definitely need a light waterproof coat. Pack clothes that are loose and airy and if needed can be layered. Only pack half a bag as you can buy lots locally for great prices.

I can't help with being part of an organized tour, but anyone can learn to be a more efficient packer.

Start with a few packing lists (provided by the tour or found online as above) for guidance. Lay things out in a separate place well in advance of the trip, and really think thru the functionality of each piece (instead of fashion).

I did essentially that same trip with Friendly Planet. Personally, I lived in shorts and a couple SPF infused (or whatever they're called) lightweight button downs from LL Bean. I switched out tank tops to feel somewhat fresh each day. The SPF shirts are super easy to wash so I cleaned them up in the sink. Bring comfy shoes- I love Merrells but also brought some Keen sandals. Everyone I saw in Vietnam dressed casually and conservatively- well, conservative for the heat. No short shorts, few sleeveless shirts, that sort of thing. I find it easier to pack for warm temps since I need fewer clothes.
