Rental Car Surcharge?
While looking for a rental car online, we found one at a decent rate, but when the total cost was itemized at the end, it included a "rental car surcharge". WHAT? Wouldn't we be paying for the rental car with the daily rate? How can they tack on $7.50 a day for a rental car surcharge? Is this another shoddy practice or does the name mean something else besides what it sounds like?

There are loads of fees that car rental agencies tack on. Are you picking up at an airport? That one's very common. Some of them you don't find out about until you're at the agency and they try to sell you insurance and waivers.

always many surcharges look at best bottom line price including insurance,Consider getting a business credit card
with Chase or Amex that gives bonuses and covers rental car insurance to save. My wife and I recently got a Chase Sapphire card each 100000 points we got $1000 back pretty cool plus car rental insurance cover free.Wesave a tonne on that. You can also use points for rental.

thanks. DH has been looking at all the rental agencies and finds all of them have a similar mysterious charge, although they call it different things. Ridiculous. they should do as the airlines now must do: advertise prices with all taxes and charges included.

Beware of a 14.2% car rental surcharge in Minnesota. Avis blamed the state for it, but it's not listed in the state's roster of taxes (there is a separate 7.127% sales tax on car rentals). If found this surcharge is a new one, to fund the Vikings new stadium.
