Luggage-Backpacks

I'm travelling to Germany in May and would like to pick the lightest carry on with the most space....any ideas? Also would like to find a crushable suitcase to fill with my purchases.

Consumer Reports had a review of various 22"-24" suitcases about 6-8 months ago.

In and amongst the expensive suitcases was a Delsey Helium Fusion 22274 suitcase that was rated as a best buy.

I needed one in that size, so I started looking online and found one for about $85 including shipping.

I can't copy and paste what CR said but it said "This carryon was the
only CR Best Buy among the 12 small rolling suitcases we tested."

It weight in the 8-9 lb range.

I think I got it from www.ebags.com

I picked up my weekender bag from ebags at least five years ago. It still looks a works like new.

I keep packing lighter and am considering something smaller as this is about the max size carry on.

It weighs about three pounds. Fully packed, it's about 18 pounds. Anything with wheels will weigh more and pack less.

Here's what I pack in it:

I just bought the Outdoor Products Essential Carry-On from Campmor a few weeks ago. I have not yet used it for a trip (will be using it when we go to Japan in April), but I have to comment that it is very lightweight and seems well-constructed. I like that I can use it as a backpack, or hide the straps and use the shoulder strap instead. It's a good size bag - larger than I expected, but still carryon size.

I've been using this 21" from Briggs & Riley for some time. Decently small and economical, but the zip around expansion gives a lot of extra space if you need it. Check it out:

We just got a couple of convertible backpack/carry ons from e-bags and paid about $50 each (no wheels). Haven't tried them out yet but are planning on using them for vacation next week. They look like they will work fairly well.

We love our e-bags weekenders. Also (and this is off point) their Mother Lode bags are super.
