Interrail 5 days in 15 days - How many cities/days?
Hi everyone,
I was hoping you could help planning my very first (mini) interrail!
Finally, I have the chance to travel trough europe for two weeks (precisely 16 day), but I'm having trouble to find the best days per city ratio.
The route I would like to do would be something like this:
Porto -> Prague (flight arring in the morning)
Prague - stay for 2 days (interrail pass activation)
Budapest - stay for 2 days
Krakow - stay for 3 days
Berlin - stay for 2 days
Hamburg - stay for 2 day
Amsterdan - stay for 3 days
Amsterdan -> Porto (fight leaving in the evening)
Note: I'm not countig 2 of my 16 vacation days to make up for the hours lost going from one city to other.
Is this pratical? Or should I discard one of those citys?
Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to Fodors segfau. See the 'Change Forum' pull down menu? Click that and re-post your questions on the Europe board. Many more people (and more helpful than Whathello )
But I will say you do have FAR too many destinations for 16 days . . .

Do you live in Porto or is there another reason for flying out of there and back?
It's a bit rushed. You aren't going to have time for much sightseeing. But if all you want to see are one or two big sites in each city it will be ok.
What you need to do is make a list/spreadsheet with the actual dates and places and travel days on it. For example you say stay for two days in Prague. So, is it day 1 arrival Prague, day 2 Prague, day 3 travel to Budapest? Or is it day 1 arrival Prague, day 2 Prague, day 3 Prague and day 4 travel to Budapest? That makes a difference in how much you have time to see. And if it's the second alternative you may run out of days.
You also need to find out the opening times/days of the sites you want to visit. Where will you be on a Sunday and will everything be open in that city on that day? Are there any national holidays that could complicate things by closing all shops and museums early?
Moving from one city to another will take at least half a day. First you need to check out of the hotel/hostel. Then you need to get to the train station. Then time on the train. And when you get to the new city you have to find the hotel/hostel and check in. I haven't looked up actual travel times, but I suspect most of the distances are too short for night trains to make any sense.
