Hotel Upgrades

We belong to several hotel "frequent stay" groups such as Hilton, Lowes, Marriott and we have yet to receive any benefit at any individual hotel with the exception of free water at the Hilton. One poster said that he got a room upgrade to club level just by flashing his card to the guy at the check-in desk. Has anyone gotten any benefit aside from points when they have stayed at hotel where they are a "member"? If so, how and what did you recieve? Thanks, just really curious.

As a *Wood Platinum member, I usually get upgraded to a suite. I also get access to all the *Wood club lounges as well.

Ask at check-in before the room is assigned.

Hilton will usually automatically upgrade me at check-in based solely on my "HHonors" membership. If they don't do it as a matter of course, they usually will if I cue them verbally - but they don't always have the space.

we booked into san Diego with travelocity. Put us at the back of the hotel, on the alley, no ocean view, etc. So I went to the front desk and, with a combination of flattery, and slight pressure, talked him into an ocean view with a veranda...much much better. So makes me wonder if you go with those travelocity, etc., sites, do the automatically give you the dumpy ones? or am I just so forceful and magnegic that he couldn't resist me..

I recently booked a trip to San Diego through Hotwire. I didn't expect much, but I really just wanted a place to crash after spending our days sightseeing.

I was very pleasantly surprised when my room was upgraded to a suite without a word from me. Sometimes I suspect there's no rhyme or reason to who the clerks choose to upgrade.
