1. When emailing for more information about a rental, please be specific. For example, don’t ask “do you have any availability?” Instead, please ask “Do you have any availability in May or June.” Owners get so many emails from renters who, after reading the website, ask for “more information.” Since we put a lot of information on the website already, we don’t usually know what they are looking for and could be a lot more helpful if the request was more specific.



2. Please respect the maximum number of sleeping places. If a rental sleep 4—that’s it. Please don’t ask if someone else can sleep on the couch.



3. If you call or email an owner several times then decide to rent someplace else, please send a very short note saying so. Owners would much rather hear “no thanks,” than nothing at all.



4. Please read any handbook or rental instructions thoroughly. Most of the information you need for your trip has been provided in these documents, which owners should send out before the trip in addition to having printed copies in the rental. If there is information you feel is missing, please tell the owner so they can include it for future guests.



5. After your stay, please write a note in the guest book or email the owner to let them know that you had a good time, or not. Owners like to hear good things, but we also like to hear about ways we can improve our offerings.



6. Have a wonderful vacation and please tell your friends about us.

Good list. I'd add these, for ski rental owners.

Please respect any notes the owner has left in the rental unit for you, such as:

Please remove your ski boots before entering.

Please do not crank up the thermostat, then leave the unit for the day.

Please do not turn off the thermostat, or pipes may freeze.

Please do not sneak in your dog and/or leave him in the unit all day while you ski. (The neighbors will report you to the owner, and you may get bounced out.)

Holiday Wish List for Vacation Rental Owners.

1. Please do not list your property for rent unless it is a legal rental. Your apartment in Paris or NYC probably is not for example.

2. Please do not list your property on sites that allow the listing of illegal rentals such as Airbnb. As a renter I will not look on those sites.

2. Please do not photograph your rental with a fish eye lense to make it look bigger than it actually is.

3. Please do not say it is 'near' or 'within walking distance' when it really isn't true unless you consider a 3 mile hike 'walking distance'.

4. Please do not use any other descriptors that are misleading such as 'bijou' (it's small) or 'rustic' (it's basic) etc.

Those who rent from you have as many complaints as owner do.

I see nothing in the OP's comments to tell me that is the case Tabernash2. The OP might well be a dishonest, misleading owner as easily as not.

I'm not saying that is the case, simply that there is nothing to indicate anything one way or the other. I never ASSUME anyone selling anything is honest and above board. Perhaps even more particularly when it comes to landlords.

The internet is full of illegal vacation rentals after all which indicates to me that there are a lot of dishonest, misleading landlords out there posting about vacation rentals.

Is English not your first language? Given your handle, I suspect you may be French Canadian and French might be your first language. If so, it's understandable that you might think the OP limited who could add a 'wish list'. In fact though the OP did not limit it.

You may 'interpret' the OP's title Tabernash2 in any way you wish. However, as WRITTEN it is as I have described a list FOR vacation rental owners. In fact, the opposite of what the OP has actually written which is a list for those who rent FROM vacation rental owners.

English does not need to be 'interpreted' if what is intended to be communicated is what is written. Interpretation is what happens when you facilitate communication between TWO DIFFERENT languages.
