Help! Honeymoon in September
We get married Sept 1, 2007 and had our hearts set on the Carribean (Dominican Republic, Punta Cana). Unfortunately, Aug thru Oct is hurricane season. Now we don't know what to do. We really want beach, adults only, all inclusive, but not totally overpriced. Afraid Costa Rica will be too rainy....Can anyone please offer suggestions?
Thanks!

I was told to ask a good travel agent about hurricanes.
The reasearch that I have done says that hurricanes rarely hit land, and if they do, you generally have plenty of time to evacuate. And then it doesn't last very long. A few hours at most.

Hello, Miranda,
Have you considered the Mexican Riviera, places like Puerto Vallarta or San Jose del Cabo (quieter than Los Cabos)? It has many of the same beautiful beaches, private and romantic getaways as the Caribbean. Many of the resorts of the Dominican Republic have locations on the Mexican , too. The cities on Mexico's West Coast have very few hurricanes.
I think you should consider going to the Dominican Republic if that is what you want to do! You can buy travel insurance that will cover your costs if a hurricane is predicted to hit your destination. Often, the tour operators will let you reschedule your trip with a hurricane warning at no cost.
Best Regards,
Julia

Miranda,
WHere are u travelling from? I feel personally that the travel time to and from a destination is so important on a honeymoon, and you are right, there's no point in going to a place to only be worried about hurricanes. Keep it simple.
