He likes cities...I like countryside... any suggestions for a destination?

I love vacations where I'm close to unspoiled nature... my favorite vacations have been to the west coast of Ireland. My husband loves cities - the bigger the better - NY, London, Paris, Chicago, even Dublin (though it's not really big!). Neither of us would do well on a cruise, for several reasons, and we don't do well at Caribbean resorts since we aren't very athletic... Aside from taking separate vacations, is there any place we can go that we would both enjoy? We usually exchange homes or apartments, so we would be staying in one central location and taking at most 2- or 3-day side trips.

Pacific Northwest - stay in Seattle of Portland and have a wealth of unspoiled countryside on your doorstep.

Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Utrecht, and make some trips out into the Dutch countryside, visit the Wadden islands for instance for a change of pace.

Manchester, with the Lakes, Pennines and the Peaks close by. Snowdonia is also with in easy reach.

Munich has stunning scenery on it's doorstep too.

The Pacific Northwest occurred to me too. I was going to suggest Seattle. But you could also consider Vancouver.

Thanks! You got me thinking... maybe Galway during the Galway Festival... we can enjoy the city and the countryside. I'm a little worried about the weather in Galway - does it rain most of the time...
