Found amazing everyday silk underwear
After reading the great bulletin boards you all have built up here at Fodor's, I was convinced I should buy silk underwear for my trip to Europe this winter.
Wicks away moisture, dries in a jiffy after after washing, weighs next to nothing...
I was unsure of where I would find everyday undies (as opposed to the froofy type), and discovered staplesonline.com
They have all different cuts and sizes, men's stuff, and silk long johns (I'm going to go back and buy those for layering). I just got my first order, and they fit like a charm (and, quite frankly, I am not "fashion-model size"
.
Had to share...

All joking aside, the clearance rack does have some very good bargains if you want silk undies.
On my last trip I bought Love Pats by Haynes. The Tiley ones were too much at $18 a pair. They are micrifibre. Very comfortable in the hot humidity of Florence, 3 pair for $5. But I can't find them anymore.

I love LovePats and have worn them and an almost identical predecessor for 30+ years. The microfiber makes them even better. When I couldn't find them in stores anymore, I did a Google search and found them direct. I've only ordered from them once and the site was kind of hokey at the time (I think it sent them a message with the info instead of checking out like a typical internet store) but I got what I ordered in a reasonable time.

Greetings Meredith66:
Thanks for you post and the threads that followed.
I had given up on finding silk underwear.
You can expect that I got the strangest looks when I went into some of our local stores to ask for MEN's SILK UNDERWEAR. I never did care what other people thought, I wanted something suitable for travel.
We travel with as little weight as we possibly can. Silk is light, washes and dries overnight and is comfortable.
I have some silk short sleeve shirts, and an old silk windbreaker jacket that I have not been able to replace.
Thanks for the info.

Well, well if they're good enough for Elvis Costello!! I read it in the "gossip" section.
I never thought men wore thongs.
Gee, I've learned a lot from that site. I love my old long silk undies from the REI store- very warm. I don't get to wear them much because I live in So. Cal.

I bought underwear for my winter trip to Copenhagen and Stockholm from Staples. They are out of Canada. It is just wonderful and so well made. All the seams lay perfectly flat, it's light as a feather but provides warmth and dries in no time. I looked at Winter Silks also, but in the end bought at Staples and I would definitely recommend them.

Honestly, I must be crazy because I have never found that silk underwear added any warmth at all. In fact,my legs actually felt colder! I couldn't wait to get it off! I can not stand tights or leggings either..I am freezing!
The 1 or 2 layer Duofold works best for me.
I met another woman on a trip that had the same experinece with silk..so I guess there are at least 2 of us in this world that hate it!

Why would anyone want to wear one, even in silk??
