I have an overall budget for a trip. But I don't break it down or keep track of it one meal at a time. That would take all the fun out of it for me.

I don't budget but do tend to have an idea what meals will cost me before hand. But the cost just goes into the overall balance

I never budget for meals, but recently I've found sites that allow to find cafes and restaurants wherever you go and even book tables there. Maybe I'll try this service. In general, it would be great to know how much money I will spend on food in advance.

For those of you who do - ideas on how you go about it please.
Go to the grocery store. There are many things you can buy and easily eat with little to no preparation, and, without spending a fortune for restaurant/fast food. Hummus + chips (open and eat); fresh fruit and veggies (rinse and eat); lunch meat/cheese and bread (open, assemble, eat). If you are in a hotel, most have microwaves available to reheat stuff.

We've recently been on a holiday to Greece and the most we've spent on is food. It's so difficult to see a local restaurant that has food that we've never tasted before and say 'no we'll eat a sandwich'. You have to decide what kind of holiday you want. If its just sightseeing then it could work out cheaper but for me and my partner, we must try the local food so we always spend a lot more than we anticipate
