Collecting quotes- do you/how do you turn down the other companies?

I've always wondered about this but never asked the question. I'm interested in people's responses.

Here's the scenario- You want to book a trip to go, say, on safari. You contact four different companies for quotes. You choose Company A. Do you then contact the other three companies and tell them you chose Company A? Or do you just not respond to the last emails from the other three companies? If you respond to the three "rejected" companies what do you say and how do you say it?

I don't think it is necessary to contact the companies you are not going to use. They will know you are not interested when you do not continue with the booking.

If you feel compelled to say something, I would simply write: "Thank you for your time, we have chosen to go with a different company."

I think it is polite to advise the un-successful quotes that they have missed out.

“Thank you for your quote, and we have decided to decline. However, your quote was helpful in determining our plan”.

Simple.

Thanks for the suggestions...I think it's only fair to respond and thank the person for his/her time.

zicasso.com nice comp site for this but many others

I always thank them for their efforts

but tell them I have found

more competitive services that meet my needs

elsewhere... always pay with CC insuremytrip.co independently

a few times they have dropped their price to be more

competitive and I have saved even more money.

"<i>I think it's only fair to respond and thank the person for his/her time.</i>"

Honestly they don't need you to respond at all. Now, if you think responding is a good bargaining chip to get a better offer from them -- then sure.

But otherwise -- they probably get hundreds of e-mails a day -- they don't need to waste the time opening one that basically says "I asked for a quote but we won't be using your company"

Just extra busy work for them and totally unnecessary . . .
