Where to buy cowhide rug in Buenos Aires
Hi All,
I'm in Buenos Aires for a few days and looking to buy a cowhide rug, but having trouble nailing down where. A google search and various blogs and outdated newspaper articles suggest the following stores:
Calma Chicha - Honduras 4909
Mission - Pasaje Russel 5009
Boeme Street
Does anyone have any experience with any of these, or have other suggestions? Also, what should I expect to pay? I stopped by Mission today and they quoted me 2,049 pesos (~$185 usd) for their XL size, which seemed very reasonable to me, but then again, I know nothing about cowhide rugs!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Coincidentally we just went through the same tough search process. We read an old NYT article which listed 3 places on Av. Boedo. We went the area and only one, La Albertina (at# 1289) was still in the business. A larger sample of suppliers would have been nice, but based on what we had seen in general leather stores in La Boca and elsewhere the prices seemed reasonable and the selection was much, much larger.
We dealt with Oscar, the only one who speaks english, and the owner/manager, I believe. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He said that they are a Tannery and they sell on to various shops. They also not undercut the retail shops that they sell to.
There may be other wholesale type providers, but we couldn't find them in the short time we had.
Good luck.
P. S. Price you mentioned sounds about right.
