What's all the hype about Buenos Aires?

Funny, we moved back to the US and a something terrible happened and now I am in the US and all I do is wish I was back home in BA.
I dont care about the wine and I don't eat meat so I didn't love BA for the food especially, plus living there, you can eat whatever you want the way you like it, but as a tourist, there are many restaurants, many many, that serve good food that one might consider "just like home
" ... which is generally what I avoid. I don't travel that far to eat food that tastes what I get in my home town.
I have heard the costs are higher but the dogs and all that would be a minor annoyance, a fly buzzing by ... in the grand scheme of things.
Anyone been to Italy ? India ? they have flies. and all sorts of animals leave their little presents on the sidewalks and streets.
It is part of unhomogenized travel ...
