Funny, we moved back to the US and a something terrible happened and now I am in the US and all I do is wish I was back home in BA.
I dont care about the wine and I don't eat meat so I didn't love BA for the food especially, plus living there, you can eat whatever you want the way you like it, but as a tourist, there are many restaurants, many many, that serve good food that one might consider "just like home
" ... which is generally what I avoid. I don't travel that far to eat food that tastes what I get in my home town.
I have heard the costs are higher but the dogs and all that would be a minor annoyance, a fly buzzing by ... in the grand scheme of things.
Anyone been to Italy ? India ? they have flies. and all sorts of animals leave their little presents on the sidewalks and streets.
It is part of unhomogenized travel ...

Try Bali or Bolivia if you want something different.

My husband spent a year in India ... that was different.

if we are talking just about food, not so different from the options I have nearby in Artesia (Little India).
