Hi there,
I've never known Machu Picchu to be hot and I have been there at various times throughout the year. Wearing zip off hiking pants, though, gives you flexibility.
I generally wear long sleeve shirts and long pants plus bug spray to protect against biting insects.
You should definitely bring a jacket and rain poncho. If it is misty, it can be a little chilly. I've also been caught in torrential rains there.

Long pants jackets at night if trekking might
consider cargo pants that zip down to shorts on sunny
warm mid days... your altitudes range from 8000-14000 ft
so dress warm bring layers for those chilly nights.
Rain Parka with hood for me rare driving rain in storms there
travelsmith.com good options for you.
