Salkantay-Inka trail. Help me choose a tour company!
My dream comes true.! Hey guys, i think that the tittle of this topic explains it all, i am going to Peru and Machupicchu in early March. My parents hiked this part of the inka trail by themselves 15 years ago, and i realized that people cant do that anymore. I backpack on my own since i was a kid and am not experienced at hiring services from tour companies. so, i want to know if there is anything in particular that i should be aware of when booking such a trip. i have been planning this trip for a while and dont want anything to go wrong. thank you for your advice.

Judging by the date of this post you've already done it. To anyone else wondering the same... If you must have a Tour company, I'd say apusperu. However, you sound like a DIY. In this case there are options to go without a service. This said, you would have to buy your own permits online, easy enough, but way to get there would have to change. I won't spend too much time on all the alternatives, but the one main most rewarding one.
Cachora to Choquequirao to Yanama to Santa Teresa(proclaimed best hot springs in Peru) to Hidro Electrico to Aguas Caliente(Pueblo Macchu Pichu). This can be done in 7 to 9 days. Mules and horsemen can be hired along the way(thus being better for the people rather than the agencies). Choquequirao is only 35% excavated. Respectively if fully excavated would be a larger complex than MP. Nothing like being the first one there without lines. It is marginally harder than Salkantay, but the reward is better. Of course, you can hire a agency to get there too.
