If you mean by flying you may be right, haven't looked at that, but there are (scenic) ways to do it on the ground via Bariloche, and you could fly the first leg within Chile.

Agree, flights typically went thru BA. We did the bus as you may have read and it was fine. I have read you can also get buses or tours from el Calafate to TDP.

I took the bus, which goes to Puerto Natales, but there were tours to TdP available. Going in the other direction I did the bus and boat combo from Puerto Varas to Bariloche, but you can just take a bus.
