Aug- Sep is great for the highlands but the coast will be subject to the Garua, the coastal mist and fog that covers much of the coast for six months of the year. So it largely depends on where you are going and what you want to do. If Machu Picchu, cusco and the sacred valley is your main focus, then it is a good time to go.

Burberry212 - here is what we did - might not work for everyone - but it did for us:
Day 1 - flight to Lima - landed very late at night
Day 2 - Private all day tour of Lima through TaxiLimaPeru
Day 3 - Early flight to Cusco
Day 4 - Cusco
Day 5 - Cusco (we intended to get out into the Sacred Valley some more but my husband got sick from some water he drank...)
Day 6-10 Inca Trail Hike through Enigma
Day 11 - Flight back to Lima
Day 12 - Lima on our own until flight left at 11:00 pm back to states.
