Peru Questions

Hi folks,

We're still deciding where we'd like to go for our big trip this year and Peru is at the top of the list. We unfortunately wouldn't have all the time in the world so we'd probably just do Lima and Cusco/Sacred Valley.

-Would anyone mind sharing their itinerary for a trip that is similar to what I'm thinking, in regards to how many days in each place?
-If you're from the USA, when flying back from Cusco to Lima, did you take a Lima to USA flight the same day? I know that many leave late at night/some are red eyes, so obviously iit would be feasible to take all those flights in the same day. I guess I'm just leery about doing that in case the Cusco to Lima flight was canceled.
-For a possibly long shot question, has anyone stayed at the JW Marriott in Lima? It's very expensive during the week but we do have some points we could use but I was just looking for anyone's opinions and reviews (I have already looked on TripAdvisor).

Thanks!

How many days do you have, and how many do you plan to spend in Lima? From my limited experience there, I think a day in Lima is sufficient, especially when there is so much more to see in Peru.

Are you not planning to visit Macchu Pichu from Cusco? Missing MP would be a big mistake.

About 8 days works well. You can find many detailed trip itineraries here under the Trip Report section.

I would spend at least the night before the return in Lima. There is plenty to see.

peruforless.com some good sample itinearies for you
Personally would do the Gringo Trail and fly back from
Cusco to see the most and adjust to altitude best.
The best Marriott.com is on the Pacific in mirafloresperu.com
have stayed there on points in the past best ocean views
nicest hotel in Lima go for it. Limacabs.com good xport
from LIM.

Have fun!

Thanks so much all for your replies. I'm sorry for having posted and ran before, work has been busy as of late so this morning is the first moment I've had to go back on the travel boards.

We'd probably spend about 7 nights and yes, in response to someone's question, we of course would be going to Machu Picchu (I was including that when I said the Sacred Valley).

And I definitely would allocate for time in Lima, most likely at the end. I've been to a lot of cities in Latin America, so I would be anxious to round out the set.

Thanks again!

As far as taking a flight right from Lima to Cuzco, we did not. We spent 4 days in Lima and then bought tickets and left the next day to Cuzco.

I would most definitely spend a day or two in Cuzco; it's amazing. Check out the market if you can.

Personally in Lima I stayed in hostel...but the Marriott looked nice if you're into hotels!
