Montevideo, Uruguay

I have been to about 15 countries. The only Country that I went for one day was Brussels Belgium. I got to Brussels late at night to my Hotel. The next day I toured Brussels all day and left at night to Amsterdam By train. What I would like to Know is a visit to Montevideo, Uruguay good for one day. I plan on saving for a trip to South America in the near future and would like to go from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. Does anyone think that 1 day for Montevideo is good enough or perhaps 2 max. Thanks

It is possible in one day but not recommended as it would be a VERY long day. Colonia de Sacremento would be a better bet - much smaller, lots to see and closer to BA.

Some photos and further info on our blog

1 day no 2 days yes like the Regency Suites an elegant European–style hotel close to Montevideo’s promenade and sea.

Too crammed to do in a day for me though many do...

Good advice from crielston. On our first trio to BsAs we took the ferry to Colonia for the day and had a great time. Montevideo is a beautiful city and deserves more time.

If you take the ferry to Montevideo it will take 3 hours over and 3 hours back. This does not leave much time to see the city. You need a minimum of two days, going over early one day and back in the afternoon on the second day.

Or, as Crellston suggests, take the fast ferry to Colonia in an hour....tour the city and return to BA in the afternoon.

Sorry, I don't know a good two star hotel in either location.

You can fly between Bue and Montevideo, real bargains can be find in the internet if you buy shead of time. As drdawggy said the 3 hours Buquebus between both cities insumes too many hours for a short visit, the one hour Buquebus Bue to Colonia is an Option from Colonia a bus is an option tthe distance between Colonia and Montevideo is only 180 Kilometers, and between Montevideo and Punta Del Este the distance is only 130 kilometers.
i was there last ten days, I do not know what is boing on both in Argentina and Uruguay but cost of living
Is going up as well as lack of security. Urugusy in particular was a very safe place but now , it has to be faced, you have to very alert.
