I've stayed at El Balcon Cusco twice. Terra Viva is a good chain and has a Cusco location. I'm sure crellston has suggestions.

We bookended our last trip to the sacred valley with stays in http://www.ninoshotel.com/html-eng/a...ommodatie.html in their Meloc property. It is a decent mid range place with comfortable rooms and good food, all in a good cause supporting disadvantaged kids in Cusco.

On the downside we did find it a little noisy with latecomers ringing the (very loud) bell until the early hours. The location was also a little far from the action. Essentially it was fine for a night or two and pretty good VFM.

Do you have tickets to MP? Maybe you don't need advance tix in rainy season?

Just want to do a quick update on our pending departure and two weeks in Peru. We (my travelling friend and I) leave Toronto early Monday (in two days time). We have a quick stop in Panama, then on to Lima. We have one night in Lima, then four days/ three nights at a lodge near Iquitos. A quick return to Lima for one night - then our flight to Cusco. Two nights in Ollaytantambo, one in Aquas Calientes, two in Cusco - then back to Lima. We have left our last four nights in Lima open to new adventures and day trips from the capital.

Thanks to fellow posters for advice on the Cusco leg. We actually had to change accommodations in Olly from La Casa del Abuelo Riverside to a different spot when they responded the appropriate room was not available. I'm sure our new choice will meet our needs perfectly. We have booked Taxidatum and will certainly tell you how it works out on our return. Now - off to pack!
