I am planning a 10 day trip to Argentina. Obviously, we are flying in and out of BA and will spend a few days there but want to know where else to visit. I would rather just pick one other place and make the most of it. Is there enough to do in Iguazu? Is Patagonia more exciting? Where in Patagonia would you recommend? Please help!!

Please tell us at what time of the year you are planning to come to Argentina.

If I had to choose one place it would be Patagonia or perhaps the North West region. Iguazu is amazing but really only need a couple of days at the most. However, as avrooster points ot the time of year you are visiting will have a significant impact on your choice. Argentina is huge and the weather will vary tremendously around the country.

I agree with crellston re Iguazu. We visited Iguazu 2 yrs ago in November. While it's an impressive sight, Patagonia offers many more options. I'd go there in a heartbeat. Have a great trip!

Like waggis we visited Iguazu in Nov and we crossed the border in Patagonia from Chile to Argentina at San Martin de los Andes and then did the seven likes drive to Bariloche (spectacular!). In retrospect we wished we had spent much more time in Patagonia but when we got to Bariloche we arrived at the same time as thousands of students on spring break. We moved quickly on!

Late November is a great time to visit our South.

In fact, I'll be in Bariloche for a few days, during your Thanksgiving weekend.

crellston - we crossed from Puerto Montt to Bariloche. While the scenery was beautiful, we were packed like sardines on the ferries, which was - maybe naively - unexpected and very disappointing. We stayed at the Llao Llao resort, so no crowds there and none in Bariloche. What a beautiful area, especially the views from the Cerro Campanario are simply breathtaking.

waggis - we were planning to do the same trip on the ferries but the owner of a hostel we were staying in in Pucon warned us that we would be dissappointed (plus the cost seemed v.expensive. From your comments it sounds as though he was right!

Totally agree re the views from Cerro Campanario - absolutely stunning - we spent hours up there. I remember thinking at the time how lucky those people were that lived in the villa that we could see from the top!

Traveling the "lake country" to Pantagonia is one venture that I shall always remember as well as cherish. We were on a ferry which was indeed ample for one to enjoy the experience immensely. It's also a photographers paradise!

If you could expand your trip by at least three days, I'd do Foz Iguazu, too! I spent 3 days there as a solo traveler--- loved the experience but not being in this area by myself!

I vote for Patagonia! We were there in December a few years ago and while I thought I would be blown away (literally), it was fantastic.We based ourselves at Punta Arenas (Chile) for about 4 days and then went on to Torres del Paine and then across to the Argentinian side with a day spent at the gorgeous Perito Moreno. My husband is dying to go back!
