hotels in cusco - need help quickly leaving soon

We had to change the dates of our trip due to illness & instead of leaving on 6/14, we will be leaving on 6/25 from SFO to Lima. We had booked the Hotel Amaru I in Cusco & they do not have room for us on our new dates. I know there are many posts with hotel recommendations but I don't have time to read through them all again. Would appreciate some specific hotel recommendations. There are 5 of us & we need two rooms for 3 nights before leaving for Manu. The Amaru group does have room at Hostal Anita, but it does not look as nice as the Amaru I. Thank you for any suggestions.

fball,

I'd recommend the Rumipunku - we have booked there based on many good reports on this forum and that of our local guide. The Casa Andina properties also seem OK,.

Cheers,

Pol.

We stayed at http://www.torredorada.com.pe/ a bit out of the centre of town but they have a free car shuttle service to an from the centre (10mins) which worked well. Otherwise , as treepol says Rumipunku is a good bet and is in a great location

www.directrooms.com

www.casa-andina.com Classic right at the plaza

great value reviews from $100/nt

www.rumipunku.com

www.balconcusco.com

both nice more basic moderates

close to the plaza always try to be within

walking distance of the plaza safest best...

Have fun,

Thank you for your suggestions. I knew all of you regular fodorites would come through. I have a tentative with Torre dorada based on your report, crellston. I am trying to be closer to the plaza as qwovadis suggests. Am waiting to hear from Rumipunku. Many places are booked already so we will do the best we can. Thanks for all of your suggestions. This trip will get off of the ground with all of your help.

No luck with El Balcon? It is quite nice and a few blocks to the Plaza although up some steep steps!

Thank you for all of your encouragement. El Balcon was a little slow in responding. Additionally, we knew our kids would want to be closer to the center of things so they could come & go on their own so decided on Rumi Punku. We will be there for three nights before our 7 day trip with Pantiacolla Tours. When we return we have one night with Hostal Amaru. We are 5 nights at KB Tambo in Ollantaytambo. Will definetly do a trip report when we return. Thank you again, everyone, for all of your suggestions.

If you can stay in the hotel which was a former monastery, that would be great. My small group of twelve and I stayed there before we went onward to Machu Picchu. When we returned from MP, all of us had upgraded rooms which were "out of this world." The hotel itself is in walking distance to this major square, too.

I'll never forget this month's trip which I took through www.gct.com (Grand Circle Travel out of Boston). Of all of my travels-- this is one trip which will be forever memorable.
