Wow, cool gift! We really liked the intimate Ecoventura boats, 20 passengers max though fewer on our trip. You can book the cruise yourself, but we booked through CNH Tours for a fully coordinated trip; the guy that posts here a lot will claim she charges "thousands" extra but it was more like $100. We thought it was worth having one person coordinate flights, boat, and side trips.

The agent mentioned above touts dysethically and is no

"expert" but MARRIED TO THE OWNER OF THE TOUR COMPANY

Her whole purpose is to lure the clueless for profit BEWARE

A major conflict contrary to posting guidelince on the boards

Welcome to Fodors be very careful many scammers on the boards

Particularly Tripadvertizer where spouses of agents tout as

"experts" scamming the clueless out of up to thousands.

cruisecritic.com for ship reviews honest not agents

www.guanguiltagua.com [email protected] had best

discounts deals on all the local boats when I was there last.

ecoventura.com excellent Seaman II Galaven good more budget.

Smartours.com BBB.org A rated excellent packages from the US

vacationstogo.com Linblad Islander VERY best but $$$$$$$

Avoid the motorsailers "puke/roachboats" like Samba Archipel

Eden Fragata old dirty very seassickness prone.

PM if I may help further complaints on tour company mentioned

above by #1 abound on the boards so CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Personally I recommend INCA to organize the small yacht of 16 people and Lindblad National Geographic to organize the large vessel of 48-100. Both companies have their own exclusive, well-adapted vessels, Integrity(16), Endeavour(96) and Islander(48)and are by far the best at what they do!

Great gift idea, and I am sure all generations will love the present!
If the grandmother is on the more active end of the grandmother spectrum, then you might want to look into some of the larger ships, as they divide passengers into varying groups depending on physical ability. There would also be a larger chance for more like-aged university kids for the granddaughter. This way, if grandma decides to give a hike a miss, she´ll have a few more options to keep her busy and comfortable on the vessel.
Good luck! I am sure your family will have a wonderful time!

PS. Qwodavis, when you make these comments referring to an "expert", I feel attacked as this is part of my profile name. (yet I am not the person you speak of) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so let´s all try to keep it positive. Thanks
