Estancia near Mendoza?

My husband and I have about a week in and around Mendoza and would love to stay on an estancia for a night or two.

We found one which sounds absolutely wonderful - Rancho e Cuero. However they have quoted us US$1400 for one night which we just can't stretch to.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? We are not experienced horse riders but want to give it a go. Mostly interested in seeing some spectacular scenery and getting an insight into ranch life. Good food is also a plus!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

More later, but the price sounds preposterous. Can you pay with a credit card?

They ask for a 50% deposit and the rest is to be paid in cash on arrival. It has great reviews on trip advisor but it seems hard to justify a price quite that high.

The $ sign is also used for Argentine pesos. Any chance that quote was in pesos and not dollars?

I don't think so.

I'll look up those reviews tomorrow morning. Do you have a link to them, Curf?

How is the deposit paid?

They didn't specify how the deposit was to be paid and we didn't enquire any further after hearing the price!

This is the website
http://www.ranchoecuero.com/EN10/index.php

Price was defo quoted in USD

Any suggestions for alternatives?

Well, Curf, the website and the reviews indicate it is a top level ALL INCLUSIVE place, which suggests the price COULD be justified, IF that is the kind of experience you are looking for.

I suggest you look for alternatives in the TA Mendoza forum http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum...doza_Cuyo.html

They have many posts on the subject.

Have great time in our country.

That's a terrible price! A niece and her husband stayed at Finca Adalgisa and loved it, but there are several reviewed on TA which receive very good reviews.

I believe that what makes the price high is that you have to pay in cash dollars....
