Estancia near Balcarce or Mar del Plata
HI All,
My husband really wants to visit the Juan Manuel Fangio Museum in Balcarce.
And I really want to go to a.) the beach and b.) stay for 2 nights at an Estancia.
We will be traveling from mid to late February, 2015.
Does anyone have recommendations for good but moderately priced estancias on the way to Mar del Plata from Buenos Aires and recommendations of where to stay when we arrive in Mar del Plata?
People in this forum are so generous with their time and recommendations.
Thank you,
Shelley

I saw you posted about the same question on the leading travel forum.
I am not allowed to post on that hallowed space, because I have this awful habit of "telling it like it is", but I'll try to answer at least part of your question here.
First, IMHO, you need to rent a car, to do that kind of tour.
Peak beach season in Mar del Plata is January and most of Feb. The crowds thin significantly by early March.
I'll try to find info about estancias and places to stay in Mar del Plata and the surrounding area.
Your DH must be quite a Juan Manuel Fangio fan!!!!
Have a great time in my country with your DH.

Hi Avrooster,
Hi My husband is a BIG JM Fangio fan. He has talked about him for years. And then he looked on the map and saw that Balcarce is close to Mar del Plata and that we could combine a visit to the Fangio Museum and the beach. But I am wondering if we shoudl go to a different beach area.
HOwever, I really dont want to drive in Argentina and do not know if it is possible to hire a driver or take public transport, remis or tazis? And if that is a possibility how expensive it will be.

While I understand not wanting to drive in Argentina,I don't see how you can manage this without renting a car, Shelley.
If your DH is a Fangio fan, he should be able to drive in Argentina, or perhaps not? No cars with automatic gears for rent here, BTW.
If I were you, I would fly to Mar del Plata, rent a car there and do the Balcarce and beaches circuit.
If you wish to avoid heavy traffic, just go to Balcarce from the airport and visit beaches with lower population. Mar del Plata is a big town and traffic is crazy in peak season.
