Easter Island - is 3 nights enough?

Are 3 nights enough, or adding a 4th night really worth the time, on Easter Island during a short vacation trip to South America in September?

thanks

Hi! I'd recommend you 5 days and 4 nights. Easter Island is small but very interesting. 2 of the 5 days would be just to fly in and out so you'd have just 3 full days to explore the islands and all its amazing attractions.

We spent 3 nights - which based on the flight schedule from Santiago permitted the following sightseeing

- arrived about noon on Day 1 - did a half day tour
- Day 2 - toured the island
- Day 3 - toured the island
- Day 4 - plane departed mid afternoon so had all morning to revisit favourite sites/shop/etc

More is always better but given our overall itinerary this worked well for us and we are so happy we went to EI

You can see and do a fair amount with three nights; that's all that I had, and I'm very happy that I got to go. I could have stayed longer with no problem, though, if I'd had the time available--and I has beautiful weather the whole time, which seems to be another factor in how long you want/need.

Here's my trip report for a little more info: http://www.fodors.com/community/sout...rip-report.cfm
