I just came back to this site (finally!) because I have been in BA twice now and wanted to follow up on my original post. On my first visit, I took your advice and took a tour with virginia panetta – the Buenos Aires History Day tour and absolutely loved it! On my last visit, I tried one of her other tours (Old Buenos Aires) and found it equally fantastic, plus it was cheap!
Her rates are so reasonable and she really knows her history. There are a bunch of tours she describes on her website www.privatebatours.com. You can also ask her any question about shopping or about local flea markets and Tango shows - it was really very nice to have a contact like this to ask anything to.

I have to say that I really loved her restaurant recommendations. The restaurants she knew I never would have found and they were truly authentic experiences that really made my trip.

Virginia Panetta WAS recommended to the OP in his previous post by cptravfo.

However, I feel that nkrskr6 could tell us a little more about his trip, such as those great restaurants he went to, instead of just telling us his guide suggested them.
